About the Book

Electric power distribution systems form the critical final link in the delivery of electrical energy from bulk transmission networks to commercial, industrial, and residential consumers. This book provides a comprehensive examination of the fundamental principles, design considerations, and operational strategies governing modern distribution networks. Beginning with essential load characteristics, diversified demand factors, and customer tariff structures, the text explores the systematic engineering of sub-transmission lines, distribution substations, and primary and secondary distribution layouts. Moving beyond basic topologies, the book delves into advanced analytical and operational techniques crucial for efficient grid management, including three-phase voltage drop and power loss calculations, forward and backward sweep load flow methods, and power factor correction using series and shunt capacitors. Furthermore, it addresses contemporary technological advancements such as distribution automation and SCADA components, equipping engineers, researchers, and students with the theoretical depth and practical insights necessary to design resilient, reliable, and economically viable power distribution infrastructures.
